Getting a Massage for Upper Back Pain
Upper back pain is a common issue that is often caused by poor posture. Many people find that getting a massage for upper back pain can help them to relax the muscles around the upper back and shoulders, and this can help with the pain a lot. The tension in the back and shoulders can contribute to a lot of pain and other issues, and cause you to have bad posture, tension, headaches and back pain. If you spend a lot of time hunched over a desk then that is not going to help you to stay healthy - you will develop a naturally hunched posture and muscle imbalances. Chiropractors perform spinal adjustments which can be helpful for people suffering from certain kinds of pain, and there are other treatments that can be helpful too - a deep tissue massage can help you with stiffness, tight muscles, scar tissue from muscle injuries, and spinal issues. Remember that the location where you are feeling pain is not always the same as the spot where the pain is coming from - sometimes pain can be 'referred' in quite complex ways, and when that happens it can be hard to pin down exactly what is causing it. Upper back pain, in particular, is confusing - is it always really the back, or is it the trap or the shoulder? Does the pain occur when lifting, sitting or performing specific motions? The best way to treat pain is a combination of massage, anti-inflammatories, and gentle exercise for rehabilitation. You use your back every day, which makes the rest element difficult, but there are still things that you can do. Try not to carry heavy loads - and if you must carry them, do so carefully. Try to sit in a neutral position, and make sure that you get up and walk around or exercise when you can at work - sitting for prolonged periods can be just as bad as over-doing exercise. Try to get a mattress for your bed that is firm and strong, so that you don't have to worry about the lack of support. All of these things can help you to recover more quickly. Massage will help to improve your circulation and can do a lot for you as well, but it's not always going to be a cure-all. It takes a sensible rehab program to get results.
